Morgan Rielly scored two goals and the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the visiting New York Rangers 2-1 Thursday night for their fifth straight win.

Jack Campbell stopped 27 shots to help the Maple Leafs win for the 10th time in their past 11 games.

Dryden Hunt scored for New York.

Igor Shesterkin made 28 saves for the Rangers, who had their four-game winning streak end.

Rielly scored on a screened shot from the left point on a pass from Wayne Simmonds at 3:41 of the first period. Michael Bunting also had an assist.

The Rangers had a 7-5 advantage in shots on goal after the first period.

Julien Gauthier, who was foiled by Campbell in the first period, was stopped again from in front of the net early in the second period.

Rielly scored his third goal of the season on a power play at 10:59 of the second period. Auston Matthews set up Rielly for a shot from the left circle with the initial work done by John Tavares. Hunt was serving a tripping penalty.

It was the fourth two-goal game of Rielly's career, two of them against the Rangers. He did not score his first goal this season until Saturday when he got the game-winner in the final minute against the Buffalo Sabres.

The Maple Leafs have a total of four goals from defensemen this season.

Toronto led 17-14 in shots on goal after the second period.

Hunt scored his first goal of the season, and his first in 31 games, at 3:30 of the third period. His first shot was wide but he made no mistake with his next attempt from the slot on a rebound from Kaapo Kakko's shot. Ryan Strome also had an assist.

Artemi Panarin broke in for a dangerous backhand effort at 8:04 of the third period.

Campbell was tested again in the final five minutes, turning aside Panarin's shot with his blocker, among others.

Shesterkin was removed for an extra attacker with two minutes to play. Strome came close as the Rangers stormed the Toronto goal in the final seconds.
