Flames 5, Devils 4 (SO): Curtis Glencross scored his second goal of the game with 5 seconds left in regulation and Jiri Hudler notched the winner in the fourth round of the shootout as Calgary defeated visiting New Jersey.
Josh Jooris also scored and Hudler tallied his seventh goal of the season with 2:22 left to go along with an assist for the Flames. Sean Monahan also converted in the bonus format while Karri Ramo made 25 saves for Calgary and stopped Travis Zajac to end the game.
Adam Henrique recorded a goal and an assist while Mike Cammalleri, Tuomo Ruutu and Zajac added tallies for the Devils, who dropped to 1-1-1 on their four-game road trip. Defenseman Marek Zidlicky added a pair of assists and Scott Clemmensen turned aside 33 shots in his first start of the season for New Jersey.
Zajac popped in a rebound on the power play with 7 seconds left in the middle session before Jooris knocked in a rebound with the man advantage 2:26 into the third. Ruutu made it 4-2 on a rebound with 9:34 left before Hudler jammed in a loose puck and Glencross poked in a rebound to send the game to overtime – both with the goalie pulled.
Henrique scored from the bottom of the right circle after a nifty reverse pass from Patrik Elias 4:51 into the game and Cammalleri converted a Jaromir Jagr pass for a 2-0 lead with 6:14 left in the first period. Glencross scored from the slot after a New Jersey turnover 10:18 into the second to cut the deficit in half.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Calgary has gained points in six straight games against New Jersey (5-0-1) and has not lost back-to-back contests in regulation this season. … New Jersey G Cory Schneider sat out his first game of the season after setting a franchise record for consecutive starts to open a campaign (20). … Calgary LW Michael Ferland notched his first NHL point in his third game with an assist on Jooris’ goal.
