Oilers 8, Flames 2: Taylor Hall recorded a goal and four assists while Ryan Nugent-Hopkins netted a tally and set up three others as visiting Edmonton won its fifth straight game and climbed into eighth place in the Western Conference.
Hall, Nugent-Hopkins and rookie Nail Yakupov all converted power-play chances in the second period as Edmonton scored eight unanswered goals. Yakupov and Jordan Eberle finished with two goals apiece for the Oilers, who received a 19-save performance from Devan Dubnyk as they completed a sweep of the home-and-home series with their provincial rivals.
Matt Stajan scored twice to snap an 18-game goalless drought for the Flames, who lost their third consecutive contest and fell to 1-2-0 in the "Battle of Alberta." Joey MacDonald stopped 31 shots.
With the game tied 2-2, Mike Cammalleri was called for tripping Yakupov early in the second period and the 2012 first overall pick made the Flames pay, one-timing a pass from Sam Gagner in the slot. Hall put a deflected pass from Nugent-Hopkins into an open net with Calgary defenseman Cory Sarich serving a cross-checking penalty and Nugent-Hopkins cleaned up the rebound of Hall’s shot while Flames blue-liner Chris Butler sat for high-sticking.
Hall set up both of Eberle’s goals in the third, giving him 15 points (seven goals) during his six-game streak. Yakupov converted a feed from Ryan Smyth with just over a minute remaining to complete the rout.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Yakupov has scored in consecutive games following a 16-game drought. Five of his nine goals have come with the man advantage. ... The Flames and Oilers will face each other once more this season - April 13 at Edmonton. ... Eberle has collected 17 points in 15 career games against Calgary. ... The Flames traded LW Blake Comeau to Columbus for a fifth-round pick at the trade deadline after having dealt captain Jarome Iginla and D Jay Bouwmeester over the last week.
