Mike Smith made 31 saves for his 11th career shutout as the visiting Tampa Bay Lightning won their fifth straight game with a 2-0 triumph over the Chicago Blackhawks on Sunday night.
Captain Vincent Lecavalier scored a power-play goal in the first period and Nate Thompson’s empty-net tally with 21.3 seconds left sealed the win for the Lightning (44-24-11).
Lecavalier suffered a cut near the right eye that required three stitches from a high stick by Michael Frolik 4:42 into the second period. The Lightning captain did not return.
Corey Crawford made 13 saves for Chicago (42-28-8), which has lost three of five.
The Lightning opened the scoring 12 seconds into their first power play of the game. Lecavalier redirected Martin St. Louis' feed past Crawford just 7:56 into the game. Simon Gagne also had his first of two assists.
Smith made 11 saves in the second period as the Lightning held that advantage. Chicago had an 18-8 edge in shots through the first 40 minutes.
Smith’s last shutout was March 31, 2010 against Pittsburgh.
