The Miami Dolphins took advantage of two early turnovers and shut down the New York Jets 10-6 at the New Meadowlands Stadium on Sunday.
Miami (7-6) never trailed in the game and its defense forced eight punts by an ineffective New York offense.
The Dolphins capitalized on numerous Jet miscues in the first half to take a 10-3 lead into the break.
Dan Carpenter connected on a 47-yard field goal to help Miami take advantage of a Mark Sanchez interception.
Sanchez was sacked and fumbled the ball on New York’s next possession. Six plays later, Chad Henne connected with Brandon Marshall on a 6-yard touchdown to make it 10-0. It was the only touchdown of the game.
Even when the Jets (9-4) scored, things went badly. Nick Folk’s 35-yard field goal followed a dropped pass by Santonio Holmes, who was wide open in the end zone.
The Jets, which were blasted by New England 45-3 a week ago, have gone nine straight quarters without scoring an offensive touchdown.
Folk booted a 42-yard field goal with 5:21 left in the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to four at 10-6. New York got the ball back three more times but never mounted a threat.
Sanchez finished 17 for 44 passing for 216 yards and a passer rating of 45.3.
Henne was 5 for 18 passing for just 55 yards.
