Oklahoma State dominated the boards and went on a 17-3 second half run Wednesday night to score a 53-36 upset over Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.

Avery Anderson III scored 12 points to lead the balanced Cowboys (14-15, 7-10 Big 12), which won despite committing 22 turnovers. Oklahoma State shot 52 percent (13-for-25) from the field after halftime and outrebounded Iowa State 24-10 in the second half, finishing with a 45-27 advantage.

Izaiah Brockington scored a game-high 13 points for the Cyclones (20-10, 7-10) and Tyrese Hunter added 12, but Iowa State completely caved on offense, particularly during the game-deciding run.

The Cyclones made only 7 of 25 shots in the second half and also ran into turnover trouble with eight of their 16 after the break. But they were still tied at 30 with 14:32 left when Robert Jones converted a turnover into the layup.

At that point, Oklahoma State took command. Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe's putback at the 11:41 mark put the Cowboys ahead for good. Keylan Boone sank a layup with 5:01 remaining for a 43-33 lead and Oklahoma State held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Iowa State only managed six points off all of Oklahoma State's turnovers.

The first half was entertaining for devotees of tough, physical defense forcing offenses into bad shots or turnovers. Neither team was able to gain much traction when it came time to score, each suffering lengthy droughts.

Iowa State endured the first one after taking a 9-8 edge at the 14:40 mark on Jones' layup. It went scoreless for the next 4:39 while Oklahoma State rattled off nine straight points for a 17-9 lead after Williams converted a turnover into a bucket.

Then it was the Cowboys' turn to go cold. They managed just one field goal in the final 8:14 of the half. The Cyclones didn't do much in that span, but did get a buzzer-beating shot from Brockington that pulled them within 22-20 at halftime.
