Ben Simmons had 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists to help LSU hold off Alabama 72-70 in a Southeastern Conference battle on Saturday at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The freshman forward was one of four players in double figures for the Tigers (12-7, 5-2 in SEC), who bounced back from Tuesday's 71-57 loss at No. 10 Texas A&M.
Tigers junior guard Tim Quarterman's layup with 33 seconds was the decisive basket after LSU and Alabama entered the final minute tied 70-70.
Quarterman had 11 points and nine rebounds, senior guard Keith Hornsby scored 12, sophomore forward Craig Victor II had 11 and freshman guard Antonio Blakeney added 10 for LSU.
Senior guard Retin Obasohan scored 20 for Alabama (10-8, 1-5), which lost its third straight.
Simmons' layup with 7:53 to go in the first half put the Tigers up 27-19, but a 12-4 run for the Crimson Tide tied it 31-31 and Alabama took a 41-26 halftime lead.
Alabama led 60-54 midway through the second, but LSU's 6-0 run tied the game 60-60 with 7:38 remaining and neither side led by more than three in the final 5:55.
