No. 25 Virginia 70, Davidson 57: Mike Tobey led the way with 18 points, seven rebounds and a pair of blocks off the bench as the visiting Cavaliers pulled away from the Wildcats.

Tobey made 8-of-11 from the field and Malcolm Brogdon, who missed all of last season while recovering from foot surgery, added 17 points for Virginia (2-1). Akil Mitchell added 11 points – all in the second half – and nine rebounds for the Cavaliers while Justin Anderson added 12 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Tyler Kalinoski (11 rebounds), De’Mon Brooks and Brian Sullivan each had 13 points to lead Davidson, which was outrebounded 42-30. The Wildcats made 7-of-17 from 3-point range in the first half and 4-of-12 in the second.

Virginia put together a 10-0 run – keyed by 3-pointers from Anderson and London Perrantes – to open up a 24-13 lead with 6:25 left in the first half. Davidson responded with four of their seven 3-pointers in the opening 20 minutes to close within 29-27 at intermission.

The Cavaliers scored 14 of the first 17 points in the second half – seven from Mitchell – to push their lead to 43-30 with 13:38 remaining. Davidson pulled within 58-49 after a 3-pointer by Tom Droney with 2:56 to go, but Tobey’s layup started a 6-0 run that sealed Virginia’s seventh straight win over the Wildcats.
