Oregon State 102, Niagara 83: Roberto Nelson scored 22 points and Ahmad Starks tallied 18 and the duo combined for 11 3-point baskets as the host Beavers routed the Purple Eagles in the season opener for both squads.

Angus Brandt had 18 points and eight rebounds and Eric Moreland scored 14 points on 7-of-7 shooting and had 13 rebounds and five blocked shots as Oregon State posted a 47-32 rebounding edge while dominating Niagara.

Marvin Jordan scored 17 points and hit five of Niagara’s 16 3-pointers. Juan’ya Green had 14 points and nine assists and Ameen Tanksley scored 12 points on four 3-pointers.

Starks sank six 3-pointers and Nelson drained five as the Beavers went 13-of-24 from 3-point range. Nelson connected on two 3-pointers and Starks added one in the final two minutes of the first half as Oregon State built a 53-39 halftime advantage.

The Purple Eagles pulled within 55-44 on Joe Thomas’ basket 91 seconds into the second half. The Beavers rolled off the next nine points to take a 20-point lead on Joe Burton’s bucket with 16:34 left and led comfortably the remainder of the contest.
