Moses Morgan scored 13 points off the bench and Krys Faber added 12 points and eight rebounds as visiting DePaul built a huge first-half lead and held off local rival Loyola 69-58 on Wednesday.
Leading scorer Cleveland Melvin struggled to seven points on 3-of-12 shooting and Brandon Young scored all eight of his points in the first half for the Blue Demons (5-3), who bounced back after a loss to another Horizon League opponent - Milwaukee - on Monday.
DePaul was on fire at the start, shooting 56 percent in the first half and taking a 47-17 lead into the locker room. The Ramblers went nearly seven minutes without scoring in the back end of the period before Christian Thomas hit two free throws with 14 seconds left in the half.
But as strong as the Blue Demons looked in the first half, they struggled that much after the break. Loyola managed to climb back into the game by holding DePaul to 24 percent (5-of-21) shooting in the second.
The lead ended up being too much to overcome for the Ramblers, who entered the contest ranked 338th in Division I in scoring at 53.4 points.
Walt Gibler scored 21 of his 29 points in the second half for Loyola (1-7), which has dropped three straight.
