Nathan Walkup scored a game-high 19 points as No. 17 Texas A&M survived a battle from last-place Iowa State for a 71-66 victory Wednesday at College Station, Texas.
Walkup, who averaged 9.9 points coming in, made 8 of 12 from the field and added five rebounds. Khris Middleton had 14 points and nine rebounds for the Aggies (20-5, 7-4 Big 12), who won their third straight game.
Jake Anderson had 18 points and six rebounds for Iowa State (14-12, 1-10), which has lost eight straight and 10 of 11. Diante Garrett (eight assists) and Scott Christopherson added 13 points each for the Cyclones.
Texas A&M led by as many as 11 in the first 20 minutes, but Iowa State kept it close on the strength of five 3-pointers and pulled within 35-28 at halftime. Walkup had 10 points to lead the Aggies, who were 14 for 27 from the field in the first half.
Iowa State put together an 11-0 run to take its last lead 48-47 with 13:51 left, but Texas A&M settled down to re-establish control and won for the first time in three games at home.
