PORTLAND, Ore. -- For a half, Stephen Curry was off his game, scoring five points on 2-for-9 shooting, including 0-for-4 from 3-point range.

Then the two-time defending Most Valuable Player suddenly became Steph Curry again.

Curry's 23-point third-quarter barrage helped the Golden State Warriors break open a tight game and sweep to a 127-104 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Tuesday night at the Moda Center.

"He just did what Steph Curry does," Portland coach Terry Stotts said with a shrug.

Curry finished with 28 points in just 30 minutes, and Ian Clark added a career-high 22 points as the Warriors (3-1) won their third consecutive game. In the third quarter, Curry sank 8 of 12 shots, including 5 of 6 3-point attempts, to propel the Warriors to a 41-point period.

"Steph has been doing this for a long time," Golden State coach Steve Kerr said. "He's one of the few guys I've ever seen who can go 0-for-10, and then follow that with 10-for-10.

"You guys saw it in Game 4 of the playoffs last year (in which Curry scored 40 points in a 132-125 overtime win at Portland). He started like 1-for-11. Then he made his second one and he shimmied. I told him afterward, 'You shimmy when you're 2-for-12, there's something wrong with that.' But that's who Steph is. He has supreme confidence."

Curry got ample help from Clark, who came off the bench to contribute a perfect shooting night. The fourth-year guard was 8-for-8 from the field, 3-for-3 from 3-point territory and 3-for-3 from the line in a sterling 25-minute display.

Clark struggled shooting in Golden State's first three games, going 3-for-14 from the field and 1-for-7 from beyond the arc.

"Ian wasn't too down after the first few games," Kerr said. "He had a great preseason. This didn't shock me. He can play. He can shoot. We have a lot of other guys who can shoot, so he's going to have some openings. Defenses can't pay that much attention to him. He was great tonight."

Damian Lillard scored 31 points and rookie Jake Layman added 17 in his NBA debut for Portland (2-2). In eight fourth-quarter minutes, Layman scored 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting -- including 5-for-7 from 3-point range.

Kevin Durant scored 20 points for Golden State.

Curry got going by scoring 11 points, including 3 straight treys, in the first 4 1/2 minutes of the third quarter to stoke Golden State's lead to 76-63. CJ McCollum (16 points) buried back-to-back 3-pointers, and suddenly the Blazers were within 76-69. But the Warriors ended the quarter on a 24-4 run to take a 100-73 lead into the fourth quarter. They extended the margin to 35 early in the final period.

"The third quarter, we slipped up," Lillard said. "We didn't communicate as well as we did the first half. We allowed (the Warriors) to get clean looks, and they got it going.

"We were allowing Steph to get in transition. The ball kept finding him. Once he hit a couple (of shots) off our mistakes, he started hitting tough ones. Then they started setting screens, and we were so worried about attacking him, they started flipping to the rim. It just got away from us."

Clark scored 16 points to stake Golden State to a 59-53 bulge at the break, going 6-for-6 from the field and 3-for-3 on 3-point attempts.

Lillard bombed in 22 first-half points, making 6 of 11 shots from the field, 3 of 6 on 3-point shots and 7 of 8 from the foul line. Evan Turner came off the bench for 11 points on 4-for-5 shooting. But the rest of the Blazers combined for only 20 points on 9-for-28 gunnery in the half.

Turner finished with 14 points.
