Bucks 96, Celtics 93: Brandon Knight recorded 26 points, including a big basket in the final seconds, as Milwaukee edged visiting Boston for its sixth victory in the last seven games.
Giannis Antetokounmpo contributed 14 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two blocks for the Bucks, who made 8-of-20 from 3-point range. Khris Middleton registered 11 points and eight boards while O.J. Mayo scored 10 for Milwaukee, which lost at Houston on Friday.
Jared Sullinger led the way with 17 points while Marcus Thornton had 14 and Marcus Smart 13 as the Celtics saw their three-game win streak come to an end. Avery Bradley and Tyler Zeller scored 10 for Boston along with Jae Crowder, who missed a corner 3-pointer at the buzzer that could have tied it.
Mayo’s dunk capped six straight points as the Bucks grew their lead to 90-81 and Smart responded with a three-point play to start a 10-2 Celtics burst that closed the gap to 92-91 with 3:03 left. John Henson’s basket pushed the lead to three, Crowder answered with 29.4 seconds remaining and Knight drained the key step-back jumper with 6.7 ticks to go for a 96-93 lead.
Milwaukee trailed by as many as seven early, but Knight scored 18 points in the opening 24 minutes – seven during a 9-2 run to close out the first half – for a 53-46 lead. The Bucks increased the lead to 66-52 after Middleton’s basket 3 ½ minutes into the third quarter before Boston rallied to within 80-75 going to the fourth – getting the final five from Thornton.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Knight had five assists, extending his career-long streak of five-plus in a game to 12. … Boston F Tayshaun Prince had eight points, five rebounds and three assists in 18 minutes after missing the last four games with a hip injury. … Milwaukee C Zaza Pachulia, the team’s leading rebounder coming into the game, was held out for the sixth straight contest with a calf injury.
