Thunder 105, Clippers 104: Russell Westbrook hit three free throws with 6.4 seconds left to cap a 38-point effort and Oklahoma City closed with a 17-3 run to defeat visiting Los Angeles and take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference semifinals.
The Thunder trailed by 13 points with 4:13 remaining before controlling the rest of the contest. Clippers point guard Chris Paul committed two turnovers in the final 13 seconds, including one in the final seconds as Reggie Jackson poked the ball away and Serge Ibaka gathered it as time ran out to give Oklahoma City a chance to wrap up the series on Thursday in Los Angeles.
Kevin Durant had 27 points and 10 rebounds but was just 6-of-22 shooting for the Thunder. Blake Griffin had 24 points and 17 rebounds for the Clippers with Jamal Crawford scoring 19 points and Paul contributing 17 points, 14 assists and four steals.
Oklahoma City trailed 90-88 after Westbrook’s basket with 9:20 to play before Crawford scored seven points during an 11-0 burst to give the Clippers a 101-88 lead with 4:13 remaining. The Thunder rattled off the next nine points to get back in the game and finally went ahead when Paul fouled Westbrook while he was shooting a 3-pointer and the Oklahoma City point guard calmly made all three.
The Clippers led 30-15 late in the first quarter and Oklahoma City briefly went ahead in the second quarter before Los Angeles recovered to lead 58-52 at the break. The Thunder were within one after Westbrook’s three-point play with 3:03 to go in the third quarter but Los Angeles closed strong to take an 86-80 advantage into the final stanza.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Los Angeles rallied from a 22-point deficit to win Game 4 by making a similar fourth-quarter finishing dash. … F Matt Barnes added 16 points and 10 rebounds and G J.J. Redick scored 16 for the Clippers. … The Thunder had a 44-22 edge in points in the paint and scored 23 points off 17 Los Angeles turnovers.
