Hawks 107, Pacers 97: Shelvin Mack scored 20 points off the bench as visiting Atlanta grabbed a huge lead and held off a late charge to grab a 3-2 lead over Indiana in the first-round Eastern Conference series.
Mike Scott scored all 17 of his points off the bench in the second quarter and Paul Millsap collected 18 points and eight rebounds for the Hawks, who can close out the series when they host Game 6 on Thursday. Kyle Korver added 16 points and DeMarre Carroll contributed 15 points as No. 8 seed Atlanta went 15-of-27 from 3-point range.
Paul George had 26 points, 12 rebounds, six assists and six steals for the top-seeded Pacers. David West, George Hill and Lance Stephenson each added 16 points for Indiana, which trailed by 30 points in the third quarter.
The Pacers held a 21-20 lead at the end of the first quarter but quickly fell off the pace in the second as Scott caught fire. The reserve forward buried 3-pointers on four consecutive possessions during a 13-0 run to start the second and added his fifth of the period with 5:31 left to make it a 48-27 gap.
The Hawks carried a 21-point lead into the break and Carroll capped an 11-1 burst with a 3-pointer to make it an 80-50 lead less than five minutes into the third. The Pacers stormed all the way back to within single digits, drawing as close as 105-97 on George’s 3-pointer with 31 seconds left, but Mack hit a pair of free throws to put it away.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Atlanta’s nine second-quarter 3-pointers tied an NBA playoff record, and its 15 3-pointers in the contest marked a franchise playoff-best. … Indiana C Roy Hibbert went scoreless and did not grab a rebound in 12 minutes. … The Hawks shot 65.6 percent from the field in the first half while Scott and Mack helped the Atlanta reserves outscore the Pacers bench 34-2 in the opening 24 minutes.
