Nuggets 100, Warriors 99: Kenneth Faried hit a go-ahead turnaround in the lane with 0.5 seconds left and Timofey Mozgov recorded a career and NBA season-high 29 rebounds to go along a career high-tying 23 points as Denver stunned host Golden State.
Faried finished with 18 points and 17 rebounds as the Nuggets dominated the glass 63-38, including 25-6 on the offensive boards. Randy Foye added 20 points, seven rebounds and seven assists for Denver.
Stephen Curry collected 24 points, seven rebounds and six assists but came up just short on a desperation heave at the end for the Warriors, who missed a chance to clinch a playoff berth. Klay Thompson added 21 points as Golden State slipped to one game ahead of the Dallas Mavericks and Phoenix Suns, who are tied for seventh in the Western Conference.
The Nuggets took their first lead 83-80 on Darrell Arthur’s 3-pointer with 7:52 left and extended it to a five-point advantage on Evan Fournier’s jumper midway through the fourth. Denver was up 97-93 when Curry went to work, hitting four free throws before grabbing a rebound and taking it all the way for a floater in the lane and a 99-98 lead with 4.7 seconds left.
The Warriors built up a 28-15 lead after the first quarter and pushed the edge to 20 points in the second before settling for a 53-43 advantage at the break. Curry’s layup gave Golden State a 65-51 edge with nine minutes left in the third before the Nuggets fought back and closed within 75-73 heading into the fourth.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Warriors F David Lee (hamstring) missed his seventh straight game. … Nuggets G Ty Lawson (ankle) sat out his third consecutive game as Denver went with an eight-man rotation due to injury. … The last NBA player to record 30 rebounds in a game was Andrew Bynum for the Los Angeles Lakers on Apr. 4, 2012.
