Pelicans 88, Bulls 79: Anthony Davis led the way with 24 points as host New Orleans prevailed for the fourth time in five games.
Davis was a force at both ends of the floor, adding eight rebounds, six blocks and three steals to lead the Pelicans to victory in the opener of a four-game homestand. Tyreke Evans added 11 points and six assists in a reserve role.
D.J. Augustin had 23 points and seven assists for the Bulls, who shot 38.6 percent from the field while turning the ball over 17 times. Taj Gibson had 17 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots off the bench while Joakim Noah contributed 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Eric Gordon scored the first seven points of the game as the Pelicans broke out to an early lead, then watched the Bulls storm back with a 15-6 run - highlighted by seven points from Augustin - to trail 23-21 after one quarter. The Chicago offense dried up completely in the second, as it went without a field goal for the first 9:06 and watched Davis string together five straight points late in the frame as the Pelicans led 50-39 at the break.
Davis' dunk set the tone early in the third quarter, and he added another jam and a long jumper to help carry the Pelicans to a 71-57 edge entering the fourth. Anthony Morrow's 3-pointer following a turnover by Jimmy Butler with 9:33 remaining stemmed a brief Chicago surge, Davis made a statement with emphatic stuff of Gibson's layup attempt and the lead didn't get below double digits until 1:12 remained.
GAME NOTEBOOK: New Orleans limited Chicago to two fast-break points while outscoring it in the paint 50-34. ... Davis has had at least four blocks in each of his last six games. ... Chicago hit just 3-of-16 attempts from beyond the arc.
