Lakers 99, Nets 94: Nick Young scored 26 points off the bench and Wesley Johnson had the go-ahead dunk with 1:32 remaining as Los Angeles held on to beat host Brooklyn for the 11th straight time.
After squandering all of a nine-point fourth-quarter advantage, the Lakers
jumped back in front when Johnson picked off an errant pass and
sprinted in for an uncontested two-handed slam. Los Angeles used free
throws to preserve the lead, and Paul Pierce rimmed out a
game-tying 3-point attempt at the buzzer.
Pau Gasol added 21 points for the Lakers, while Jordan Farmar scored 15 points on five 3-pointers. Joe Johnson led the Nets with 18 points.
Los Angeles erupted for 34 first-quarter points and continued its onslaught in the second, with Farmer knocking down 3-pointers on the Lakers' first three shot attempts of the period to make it 43-18. Farmar hit another 3 later in the quarter, and then the Lakers went more than five minutes without a point as the Nets gradually chipped away at the deficit and trailed 54-40 at the break.
A Young breakaway dunk off a Steve Blake outlet pass helped the Lakers stem a Brooklyn rally early in the third quarter, and he added a leaning 3-pointer as the shot clock expired later in the period to help send Los Angeles into the fourth with a 77-68 lead. Another deep Farmar 3-pointer pushed Los Angeles' lead to nine early in the final quarter, but the Nets roared back to draw even on four straight Mirza Teletovic points, setting the stage for the thrilling finish.
GAME NOTEBOOK: The Nets, who were already without PG Deron Williams (ankle), C Brook Lopez (ankle), SF Andrei Kirilenko (back) and SG Jason Terry (knee), lost C Andray Blatche to an ankle injury in the second half. ... Teletovic finished with a career-high 17 points. ... Pierce shot just 4-for-17 in defeat.
