Nuggets 109, Hawks 107: Ty Lawson led the way with 23 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as host Denver outlasted Atlanta to pick up its first victory.
Nate Robinson scored 15 points off the bench and split a pair of free throws with six seconds remaining to provide the winning margin. JaVale McGee added 14 points and Randy Foye had 13 for the Nuggets, who left the Utah Jazz as the last remaining winless team.
Paul Millsap collected 29 points and 10 rebounds but could not come up with a big basket at the end as the Hawks slipped to 1-3 on the road. Al Horford added 21 points and nine boards while Jeff Teague posted 14 points and 11 assists.
Lawson capped a 9-0 run with a long jumper to put Denver on top 99-98 and it went back and forth before the Nuggets scored six straight points, capped by Lawson’s deep banked-in 3-pointer with 58 seconds left to make it 107-102. The Hawks had a chance to tie it at the line but Millsap missed one of two free throws with 8.2 seconds to play and could not hit a 14-foot jumper in the final seconds.
Denver led by as many as five points in the third quarter but two straight baskets by Atlanta to close the period sent it into the fourth quarter knotted at 83. Teague’s short jumper with 6:52 left gave the Hawks their biggest lead of the second half at 98-90 before the Nuggets clawed their way back.
