Spurs 92, Heat 88: Tony Parker scored 10 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter and hit a key jumper with 5.2 seconds left just before the shot clock expired as San Antonio defeated host Miami in Game 1 of the NBA Finals.
Tim Duncan added 20 points and 14 rebounds for the Spurs, who are 13-2 in the postseason. With the Heat needing a defensive stop, Parker eluded LeBron James’ defensive pressure and barely got the ball out of his fingertips before the shot-clock hit zero to seal the victory.
James had 18 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists and Dwyane Wade scored 17 points for the Heat. Miami led for most of the contest but was limited to 16 points on 5-of-18 shooting in the fourth quarter.
Parker scored six points during a 12-3 surge that saw San Antonio turn a three-point deficit with nine minutes to play into an 85-79 lead with 3:30 left. The Spurs increased the lead to seven on Danny Green’s 3-pointer before Miami made one last charge, pulling within two on two free throws by James prior to Parker’s clinching hoop.
Wade scored 13 first-half points as Miami took a 52-49 lead into the break. The Spurs trailed 72-69 entering the fourth and took their first second-half lead at 77-76 on two free throws by Parker with 7:47 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: San Antonio’s four turnovers ties the NBA Finals record for fewest in a game set by the Detroit Pistons against the Spurs in 2005’s Game 4. … Chris Bosh and Ray Allen added 13 points apiece for Miami, while Manu Ginobili tallied 13 for San Antonio. … The triple-double was James’ 10th in postseason play, tying him for third all-time with Boston’s Larry Bird and Rajon Rondo.
