O.J. Mayo scored 18 points off the bench and the Memphis Grizzlies completely shut down Chris Paul in a 111-89 victory over the visiting New Orleans Hornets on Sunday.
Marc Gasol had 16 points and Zach Randolph and Sam Young each added 14 as Memphis pulled into a tie with New Orleans (both 46-34) for the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference with two games remaining.
Paul was held scoreless for the first time in his career, going 0 of 6 from the floor and 0 of 2 from the stripe in 27 minutes. He finished with 10 assists.
Memphis shot a blistering 60.3 percent (41 of 68) and dominated the second half in outscoring the Hornets 59-41 after the break.
Emeka Okafor’s layup early in the third pulled the Hornets to within 52-50, but the Grizzlies followed with a 17-6 burst, capped by Randolph’s jumper and free throw that made it 69-56 with 4:48 to go in the quarter.
Marco Belinelli had 18 points for the Hornets, whose three-game winning streak ended.
