Kobe Bryant scored 19 points to lead six players in double figures and the Los Angeles Lakers used a late surge to pull away for a 93-84 road victory over the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night.
Pau Gasol scored 17 points and Lamar Odom added 15 for the Lakers (36-16), who used an 11-0 fourth-quarter run to improve to 2-0 on their seven-game road trip.
The Lakers also did an outstanding defensive job on Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph, holding him to eight points on 2-of-14 shooting. Randolph has been held to single digits just three times this season.
Sam Young scored a season-high 22 points and Rudy Gay added 18 for the Grizzlies (27-26), who have lost two in a row following a five-game winning streak.
The Lakers had lost two of three to the Grizzlies this season, including a 19-point defeat at home last month, but went ahead in the second quarter and held off several rallies.
Three-pointers by Bryant and Ron Artest helped the Lakers build a 64-51 advantage early in the third quarter. The Grizzlies went on a 13-2 run to cut the margin to two and trailed 73-68 entering the final period.
Memphis closed to 78-76 before Odom and Artest hit 3-pointers, Odom added a three-point play and Gasol hit two free throws, rebuilding the lead to 89-76 with 4:42 to play.
Artest scored 13 points, Andrew Bynum added 11 and Derek Fisher had 10 for the Lakers.
