Victor Reyes had four hits and drove in two runs to lift the host Detroit Tigers to a 5-3 win over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday afternoon.
Chicago's magic number to clinch the American League Central Division remained at two. The White Sox (85-66) have dropped the first two contests of this three-game series.
Daz Cameron had three hits and scored twice and Akil Baddoo drove in two runs for the Tigers (74-78). Winning pitcher Bryan Garcia (3-2) tossed 1 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and Michael Fulmer got the last four outs for his 11th save of the season.
Detroit starter Tyler Alexander gave up two runs on eight hits in five innings. Chicago starter Dallas Keuchel also allowed two runs in five innings despite allowing 11 hits.
Luis Robert had two hits and two RBIs for Chicago.
The White Sox scored two runs in the third inning. Cesar Hernandez had a one-out single and moved to third on Tim Anderson's double. Robert knocked in both runners with a single past the drawn-in infield.
The Tigers got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning. Reyes led off with a double and scored on Baddoo's single.
Baddoo's second run-scoring hit, which followed singles by Cameron and Reyes, tied the game in the fourth inning. Detroit had the bases loaded with two out but Keuchel retired Robbie Grossman on a grounder.
Both teams left two runners on base in the fifth inning and Chicago left two more runners on in the sixth.
The Tigers almost got the lead in the sixth. Reyes reached third with no outs. He was ruled safe at home on Baddoo's fielder's choice grounder. The call was challenged and overturned via a replay review.
The Tigers took a 5-2 lead in the seventh inning against Jace Fry (0-1). Grossman and Jeimer Candelario hit back-to-back singles before Eric Haase grounded into a double play. Grossman scored on a Niko Goodrum single, and Reyes followed two walks with a two-run single.
Anderson had an RBI single in the eighth to bring home Adam Engel, who doubled with two out. Chicago left two runners stranded in the ninth.
