Antonio Senzatela tossed six strong innings and chipped in with a two-run single, and the Colorado Rockies beat the New York Mets 9-4 on Monday night in Denver.
Colorado's Ian Desmond homered among his two hits, Trevor Story also went deep, and Garrett Hampson had three hits. Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon contributed two hits each for the Rockies, who overcame a three-run deficit and won their four straight.
Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil homered, and McNeil, Pete Alonso and Amed Rosario had two hits apiece for the Mets, who fell five games back of the Chicago Cubs in the race for the second National League wild card. Chicago and the Milwaukee Brewers, sitting one game behind the Cubs, both won on Monday.
Nimmo wasted no time in putting the Mets ahead, leading off the game with his sixth home run. It is the fourth time in his career he has led off a game with a homer.
Desmond's 18th, a line shot to left-center, tied it in the second, but the Mets responded in the third. Tomas Nido led off with a single, and two outs later, McNeil hit his 21st home run to put New York ahead 3-1.
Alonso broke an 0-for-21 slump with a one-out single in the fourth and came home on Rosario's double to the corner in left to make it 4-1.
Mets starter Steven Matz kept the Rockies relatively in check the first three innings, but Colorado erupted in the fourth to take the lead. Hampson's bloop single drove in the first run, Drew Butera then walked to load the bases, and Senzatela lined a single into left field to plate two and tie it.
Story followed with a 401-foot shot into the seats in left, his 33rd of the year, to put Colorado ahead 7-4.
Matz (10-9) went four innings, allowing seven runs on six hits, walking two and striking out four. It was his shortest outing since going 3 2/3 innings at Pittsburgh on Aug. 2.
Senzatela (10-10) worked out of a two-on, one-out jam in the sixth, his last inning of work. He allowed four runs on eight hits and fanned four with one walk.
