SAN FRANCISCO -- Right fielder Hunter Pence collected four hits, including a pair of run-scoring doubles, lifting the San Francisco Giants to a 9-3 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series pairing the San Francisco Bay Area rivals.

Center fielder Angel Pagan and catcher Buster Posey had three hits apiece, first baseman Brandon Belt drove in three runs with two hits, and right-hander Jake Peavy held the A's to three runs over six innings, helping the Giants improve to 7-3 in interleague play this year, including 5-2 at home.

In recording their fourth consecutive home win, the Giants roughed up Oakland starter Jesse Chavez (5-10) and five relievers for 17 hits. Every San Francisco starter except second baseman Joe Panik had at least one hit.

Posey and third baseman Matt Duffy scored two runs apiece and five Giants players scored once apiece in the opener of six-game homestand.

Peavy (2-4) recorded his second straight win after opening the season 0-4. He gave up five hits in his six innings. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.

Coming off a 5-1 road trip, the Giants have now won nine of 10.

The interleague rivals will meet five more times this season. Oakland has won the season series in seven of the past nine years, including 3-1 in 2014.

Second baseman Ben Zobrist belted a solo home run, his sixth of the season, and first baseman Billy Butler had three singles for Oakland, which fell to 5-3 in interleague play.

The A's totaled eight hits.

The contest was the opener of a five-game trip for the A's, who have lost two in a row.

Chavez was pulled three batters into the fourth inning, having given up four runs on eight hits. He walked two and struck out one in his 80-pitch struggle.

Right-hander Fernando Rodriguez relieved Chavez with no outs and the bases loaded, and proceeded to get out of the jam. After striking out Panik, Rodriguez got Duffy to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Pagan contributed to two-run innings in the first and second as the Giants provided Peavy with an early cushion.

Pagan led off the Giants' first with a single and eventually scored on Posey's sacrifice fly. San Francisco went on to make it 2-0 on Pence's first double, scoring Duffy, who had singled.

Pagan also singled in the second, this time driving in shortstop Brandon Crawford, who had led off the inning with a single. Panik's sacrifice fly plated left fielder Gregor Blanco, who had walked, to increase the lead to 4-0.

A's left fielder Sam Fuld doubled and scored on center fielder Billy Burns' infield out in the third, narrowing Oakland's deficit to 4-1.

Burns had to leave the game at that point, having fouled a ball into his groin area. The injury was called a testicle contusion.

The Giants' third multiple-run uprising came against A's relievers Rodriguez and left-hander Eric O'Flaherty in the fifth. Pence's second RBI double contributed to the three-run inning, as did a run-scoring double by Belt and a run-producing throwing error by A's third baseman Brett Lawrie that made it 7-1.

NOTES: RHP Chris Bassitt will be recalled from Triple-A Nashville before Saturday's second game of the series and face Giants ace LHP Madison Bumgarner in the afternoon affair, the A's announced Friday. ... One day after A's RHP Arnold Leon was summoned from the minors to take LHP Scott Kazmir's spot on the roster, he was sent back to Nashville. RHP Angel Castro was promoted to take the place of Leon, who pitched 3 1/3 innings in Thursday's loss to Toronto. ... A's manager Bob Melvin confirmed that he met with injured OF Coco Crisp (cervical strain) before Friday's game to discuss a possible injury-rehab trip to the minors next week. Melvin indicated it's likely to happen. ... Giants manager Bruce Bochy said he watched LF Nori Aoki (broken right leg) work out at AT&T Park on Thursday and deemed him not fully recovered. Aoki was sent back to Triple-A for at least two more injury-rehab games, after which Bochy said he would be re-evaluated. ... Bochy also predicted before the game that RHP Tim Lincecum (bruised right forearm, degenerative hip) would pitch again this season. ... Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson was a guest of the Giants before the game.
