Nationals 7, Marlins 1: Stephen Strasburg struck out 12 in 6 2/3 innings, Ian Desmond belted a grand slam and Jayson Werth homered for the second straight game as host Washington swept Miami.
Strasburg (1-1) allowed a run and three hits and didn't walk a batter while retiring 14 straight at one point to help the Nationals defeat the Marlins for the 17th time in the last 22 meetings - 12 of 13 at home. Adam LaRoche continued his unusual early season tear with two hits while Desmond and Werth also delivered a pair for Washington.
Marcell Ozuna belted a solo home run for Miami, which struck out 17 times and didn't record a hit after Strasburg departed. Tom Koehler (1-1) yielded two runs, five hits and struck out six in six innings before the Nationals broke open a 2-1 game by scoring five runs off Arquimedes Caminero in the eighth.
Werth, whose grand slam in the eighth inning gave Washington a 10-7 victory Wednesday, crushed a 3-0 pitch over the wall in center with Rendon aboard in the third frame of this one. Ozuna cut the deficit in half in the seventh when he lined Strasburg's 0-1 pitch well over the wall in left.
The Nationals, who outscored the Marlins 22-8 in the series, batted around in the eighth as Bryce Harper walked with the bases loaded and one out, and Desmond followed by crushing Caminero's 1-1 fastball into the seats in left-center. Rendon led off the eighth with a double and has at least one hit in every game this season.
GAME NOTEBOOK: LaRoche entered 2014 a career .214 hitter in March and April, but is off to a .344 start with two home runs and nine RBIs, while Rendon is hitting .412. ... The Nationals are 42-42 against Miami since the franchise moved to Washington in 2005. ... Washington hits the road for six games - beginning Friday with a three-game series in Atlanta - while Miami finishes its six-game road trip with a three-game set against Philadelphia before returning home to host the Nationals.
