Nationals 10, Marlins 7: Jayson Werth belted a grand slam in the eighth inning and host Washington rallied twice to continue its dominance over Miami.
Bryce Harper crushed a three-run homer, and Ryan Zimmerman and red-hot Anthony Rendon each had two hits and scored twice for the Nationals, who have defeated the Marlins in 16 of the last 21 meetings - and 11 of 12 at home. Werth finished with five RBIs while Ian Desmond also knocked in a run.
Derek Dietrich hit a two-run homer, Jarrod Saltalamacchia delivered a solo shot and Christian Yelich matched a career high with three hits while reaching base five times for the Marlins. Carlos Marmol (0-1) yielded Werth's blast over the left-center wall on a 1-0 fastball and allowed two hits, a walk and hit a batter in the inning.
Dietrich's two-run shot to right in the second inning gave Miami a 5-0 lead. Washington cut the deficit to 5-3 when Adam LaRoche and Zimmerman led off the fourth with singles and, two batters later, Harper finished a 10-pitch at-bat by ripping a 3-2 fastball into the upper deck - just inside the right-field foul pole.
The Nationals took a 6-5 lead with two runs in the sixth before Saltalamacchia ripped Drew Storen's 2-0 offering over the wall in center leading off the seventh to tie it. Tyler Clippard (1-1) was credited with the victory despite giving up Garrett Jones' RBI double in the eighth, which put the Marlins on top 7-6, and Rafael Soriano worked around a pair of hits in a scoreless ninth for his second save.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Washington RHP Jordan Zimmermann was 3-0 with a 1.50 ERA in three career starts against Miami before allowing five runs and seven hits in 1 2/3 innings - the shortest start of his career. ... Marlins LHP Brad Hand allowed three runs, four hits and struck out four in 3 1/3 innings while making a spot start after RHP Jacob Turner was placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain. ... Zimmerman (arthritic right shoulder) missed the last two games and was replaced at third base by Rendon - 13-for-31 to start the season - who returned to second in this one.
