Astros 3, Mets 1: Jose Altuve had an RBI single and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth inning as visiting Houston won the opener of its season-closing interleague series with New York.

Altuve went 1-for-4 to see his majors-best batting average dip to .342 and Matt Dominguez added an RBI single for the Astros, who posted just their third victory in 10 outings. Robbie Grossman and Chris Carter each ripped a double and scored a run while Kevin Chapman (2-0) allowed one hit in two-thirds of an inning to pick up the win.

New York's Curtis Granderson belted his 20th homer for the seventh time in his career and improved to 11-for-25 with seven runs scored during his seven-game hitting streak. Jonathon Niese scattered three hits over 5 1/3 scoreless innings before exiting with an elevated heart rate.

Granderson's blast opened the scoring in the fourth inning before Houston answered in the sixth after Carlos Torres (8-6) replaced Niese. Grossman ripped a double and scored on Altuve's 223rd hit before Carter's double to left allowed the diminutive star to race around the bases and slide past catcher Anthony Recker, who dropped the ball.

Dominguez recorded his team's fifth hit of the inning with a single to right to plate Carter and give Houston a 3-1 lead. The Astros used four relievers to seal the win, with Chad Qualls retiring the side in order in the ninth for his 19th save.
