Brent Morel homered and drove in a pair of runs as the Chicago White Sox held on for their fifth straight win, a 4-3 triumph at Baltimore on Tuesday evening.
Carlos Quentin got the White Sox on the board with a solo home run in the second inning. Morel, who had an RBI single later in that frame, added a solo homer in the fourth to give Chicago a 4-0 cushion against Jo-Jo Reyes (5-9).
The Orioles scored three runs in the fifth inning and were threatening to add more before Nick Markakis, who keyed the rally with an RBI base hit, was caught stealing third with one out and two runners on base. Baltimore manager Buck Showalter was ejected after arguing the call.
Chicago starter Gavin Floyd (10-10) weathered the fifth-inning storm for the win. He gave up three runs on seven hits in 6 2/3 innings, striking out four and walking one. Four White Sox relievers combined for 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief to finish it.
Reyes lasted just four innings for the Orioles, allowing four runs on five hits while walking two, but Chris Jakubauskas followed with four-plus innings of scoreless relief, departing after allowing a leadoff walk in the ninth.
