Justin Verlander pitched 6 2/3 scoreless innings and Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in three runs in leading the Detroit Tigers to a 6-0 win over the New York Yankees on Thursday afternoon.

Verlander (4-2) held the Yankees to four hits, walked four and struck out four. The right-hander has won his last three starts.

Joel Zumaya and Eddie Bonine preserved the shutout by not allowing a hit the rest of the way as the Tigers took three of four in the series.

New York starter CC Sabathia (4-2) allowed six runs and nine hits in six innings in his worst performance of the season.

Cabrera and rookie Brennan Boesch hit back-to-back homers in the fourth. Cabrera's two-run double highlighted a three-run sixth inning.

Cabrera, Boesch, Johnny Damon, Magglio Ordonez and Gerald Laird had two hits apiece. Laird drove in two runs with a single in the second and a double in the sixth.

Jorge Posada had two hits and Derek Jeter managed an infield hit in four at-bats in going 1-for-17 in the series.
