NEWARK, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils continued their stellar play in overtime, winning for the eighth time in the extra session, knocking off the Dallas Stars 3-2 on Saturday at Prudential Center.

Defenseman John Moore scored a power-play goal in overtime for New Jersey (20-14-5) to move the Devils to 8-1-4 in overtime this season. The eight victories are tied for second with the Los Angeles Kings and the Chicago Blackhawks.

Moore's one-timer from just inside the blue line occurred at 1:47 of the overtime while Stars left winger Jamie Benn was serving a penalty for hooking Devils center Travis Zajac.

"We're well-prepared for it (overtime) and we know exactly what we want to do," Devils goalie Cory Schneider said. "When you have the 4 on 3 in OT, you have to find a way to bury it and it's a credit to the guys out there when executing."

The goal was Moore's second in overtime this season.

"It was a couple of great plays by Kyle Palmieri and some poise by our forwards," Moore said. "It was a huge test for us. They (Dallas) are a very talented team. We have to build off this."

Dallas (28-8-4) entered the game with the most points (59) and the most goals (136) in the NHL. The Devils denied the Stars on three power-play chances, allowing just three shots. Dallas began the game ranked fourth in the league on the power play. The Devils were eighth in penalty killing.

New Jersey received second-period goals from right wing Bobby Farnham and right wing Kyle Palmieri for a 2-0 edge.

Left wing Patrick Sharp and center Colton Scevious scored third-period goals for Dallas.

Schneider made 29 saves. He has allowed two or fewer goals in 19 of his past 25 starts since Oct. 29.

Anti Niemi stopped 27 shots for the Stars.

New Jersey was without leading scorer Mike Cammalleri, the left wing who was out with an upper-body injury. He is tops on the team with 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists).

"He just had a little bit of an issue with it," coach John Hynes said. "We'll see how he feels tomorrow. It's day-to-day."

Sceviour tied it at 2-2 with 5:31 to play, scoring his fifth goal on a wrist shot from center Jason Spezza.

Sharp cut the Devils' lead to 2-1 with his 15th goal with 9:06 left to play.

Defenseman John Klingberg and center Mattias Janmark received the assists.

"I thought they (Devils) played a heckuva game," Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. "I thought they skated well; their tracking and back-checking was as good as any team we've faced. They limited our opportunities.

"They played a smart game. I thought we had a good push in the third to get back in it. In the end, you have to find ways to get a point when you're down, and we found a way."

Farnham increased New Jersey's lead to 2-0 from right wing Jordin Tootoo and center Stephen Gionta at 6:02 of the second period. Farnham sent a wrist shot from the middle of the right circle for his fifth goal of the season and second in three games.

Palmieri gave the Devils a 1-0 lead with his 17th goal just 1:02 into the second period when he outfought Stars defenseman Jason Demers behind the net, then wrapped the puck around Niemi's near post on the backhand.

NOTES: Dallas LW Jamie Benn's seven-game point streak was halted. ... Devils LW Kyle Palmieri returned after taking a maintenance day during the Devils' practice on Friday. ... Dallas started a three-game New York metropolitan road trip. It plays in Brooklyn against the New York Islanders on Sunday and against the Rangers on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden. ... The Devils won their third straight for the second time this season.
