Canucks 5, Jets 2: Radim Vrbata tallied twice and added an assist as host Vancouver scored five unanswered goals en route to its fifth victory in six games.
Captain Henrik Sedin recorded a goal and two assists while Chris Higgins added one of each for the Canucks, who moved four points ahead of idle Calgary for second place in the Pacific Division. Defenseman Yannick Weber also scored, Daniel Sedin notched two assists and Eddie Lack made 26 saves as Vancouver began a three-game homestand with its second win over Winnipeg in as many meetings this season.
Jiri Tlusty and Blake Wheeler tallied for the Jets, who saw their lead over Los Angeles for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference shrink to two points. Rookie Michael Hutchinson turned aside 25 shots as Winnipeg was denied a season-high sixth consecutive victory.
Winnipeg grabbed an early lead as Tlusty beat a screened Lack from the left faceoff circle 2:17 into the contest. Wheeler doubled the advantage at 5:07 of the second period, poking a loose puck in the crease past the netminder, before Higgins converted a cross-slot backhand pass from the left circle by Vrbata less than six minutes later to halve the deficit.
Weber forged a 2-2 tie with 3:31 left in the session, burying a one-timer from the blue line during a power play for his second goal in two games. Vrbata put Vancouver in front 2:31 later when he skated through the left circle and across the doorstep before depositing the puck past a fallen Hutchinson before following Henrik Sedin's empty-netter in the final minute of the third with one of his own.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Winnipeg RW Drew Stafford extended his point streak to seven games with an assist on Wheeler's goal. Stafford has netted four tallies and set up five others during the run. ... The Canucks have scored a power-play goal in each of their last three games after recording two man-advantage tallies over their previous 11 contests. ... The Jets were without C Bryan Little and D Dustin Byfuglien for the ninth straight game as they nurse upper-body injuries.
