Coyotes 3, Canadiens 2: Lauri Korpikoski recorded a pair of goals and Louis Domingue earned his first NHL victory in net as Arizona rallied from an early two-goal deficit to win in Montreal for the first time since 1996.
All-Star Oliver Ekman-Larsson also scored his 14th goal and fellow defenseman Keith Yandle chipped in with two assists for the Coyotes, who won for only the second time in 10 games. A native of Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, Domingue turned aside 18 shots after making his NHL debut in relief of Mike Smith Saturday as Arizona improved to 2-3-2 on its eight-game road trip.
Alex Galchenyuk scored both goals for the Canadiens, who saw their five-game winning streak come to an end after two consecutive shutouts. Red-hot Carey Price received the day off as backup Dustin Tokarski made 29 saves in his first game since Jan. 17 for Montreal, which was 0-of-2 on the penalty kill.
Galchenyuk jumped off the boards and whipped a shot through a screen from the inside part of the right circle that beat Domingue 1:15 into the contest. Galchenyuk knocked in a rebound 3:40 later, but Korpikoski deflected Martin Erat’s shot down and between Tokarski’s legs on the power play with 2:17 left in the second session.
Ekman-Larsson scored 32 seconds into the third on a bad-angle shot and Korpikoski shot from the left side of the net deflected in off defenseman Alexei Emelin at 3:17 on the power play for a 3-2 lead. Domingue had to make only five saves in each of the final two periods, but weathered a flurry at the end to seal the victory.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Montreal F Lars Eller left the game in the second period with a lower-body injury and did not return. … Arizona C Martin Hanzal missed his second straight game with an upper-body injury. … Galchenyuk has 15 goals, topping last season’s career-best total of 13. … Coyotes C Antoine Vermette went 23-6 in the faceoff circle.
