Red Wings 5, Stars 2: Darren Helm scored a pair of goals as Detroit sent visiting Dallas to its fourth consecutive defeat.
Stephen Weiss recorded a goal and two assists while Pavel Datsyuk and defenseman Kyle Quincey contributed one of each as the Red Wings won for the fifth time in six games. Riley Sheahan and Tomas Tatar collected two assists apiece and Jimmy Howard turned aside 22 shots as Detroit improved to 8-1-1 in its last 10 meetings with the Stars.
Tyler Seguin scored his league-leading 19th goal and Colton Sceviour netted his first of the season for Dallas, which has surrendered five goals in each game during its 0-3-1 stretch. Jussi Rynnas, called up from the minors this week, made 24 saves in his second career start - and first since March 2012.
It was an inauspicious beginning for Rynnas, who allowed Helm's shot from just along the end line to squeeze past him 3:58 into the contest, but the Stars answered 15 seconds later as Sceviour steered defenseman Jordie Benn's crossing pass into an open net. Weiss buried a perfect feed from Sheahan nine minutes later before Datsyuk flicked a backhander from the left hash marks past Rynnas during a power play at 18:52.
Dallas pulled within 3-2 at 14:26 of the second period as Seguin's long-range wrist shot during a man advantage clipped the stick of Detroit's Joakim Andersson and skipped past a screened Howard. However, the Red Wings pulled away when Quincey's slap shot got through a maze at 7:39 of the third and Tatar set up Helm, who had all day to deke Rynnas before lifting the puck over his right pad with 6:53 remaining.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Datsyuk notched his sixth goal in four games to tie Gustav Nyquist for the team lead with 11 and give Detroit a power-play tally in six straight contests. ... Dallas had a second-period goal overturned by video review when it was ruled that D Trevor Daley shoved the puck into the net with his arm. ... Weiss registered his fourth goal in six games since returning from a five-week absence due to injury.
