Blues 5, Islanders 1: Derek Roy and captain David Backes scored power-play goals just over 2 1/2 minutes apart in the second period and Jaroslav Halak turned aside 22 shots as host St. Louis handed reeling New York its eighth straight setback (0-6-2).

Defenseman Jay Bouwmeester also tallied with the man advantage for the Blues, who snapped a two-game losing skid and posted their fifth straight victory at home. Magnus Paajarvi and Brenden Morrow also scored and defenseman Kevin Shattenkirk and T.J. Oshie each notched a pair of assists in the win.

Blue-liner Andrew MacDonald netted a power-play goal as the Islanders fell to 3-10-0 on the road. Kyle Okposo added an assist to extend his point streak to three games.

With Matt Martin serving an interference penalty, Roy gave St. Louis a 2-1 lead after cleaning up Shattenkirk's blast from the point. The goal was his seventh of the season - and fourth on the power play.

Backes beat Anders Nilsson (21 saves) shortly thereafter by using Oshie as a screen before wristing a shot from the top of the right circle.

GAME NOTEBOOK: With LW Thomas Vanek serving an interference penalty, St. Louis opened the scoring at 11:47 of the first period as Bouwmeester's blast from the point beat a screened Nilsson for his second goal. MacDonald answered 5:19 into the second with a one-timer from the point. ... St. Louis LW Jaden Schwartz was held off the scoresheet and saw his point streak end at seven games. Schwartz had recorded three goals and five assists in the stretch. ... Halak was briefly shaken up early in the second period after a shot by captain John Tavares skipped off the ice and caught him on the mask. He remained in the contest and improved to 6-1-1 in eight games against the Islanders. ... St. Louis scored three power-play goals for the second time this season. The Blues also accomplished the feat versus Colorado on Nov. 14.
