Sharks 2, Canucks 1 (OT): Defenseman Dan Boyle set up the tying goal late in the third period and scored the winner on the power play 2:38 into overtime as visiting San Jose rallied for its second straight win.

Rookie Tomas Hertl also tallied and Antti Niemi made 34 saves for the Sharks, who improved to 2-0-1 on their five-game road trip. Both victories were recorded in overtime.

After Hertl prevented Roberto Luongo from registering his third shutout of the season, San Jose took advantage of a power play in the extra session to complete the season series against Vancouver with a 3-1-0 record. As Canucks captain Henrik Sedin was in the penalty box for hooking, Boyle received a cross-slot pass from Joe Pavelski and waited for Luongo to drop to the ice before ripping a shot that hit the top bar in the back of the net.

Play continued for a few seconds before the whistle was blown, and after video review, Boyle was awarded his fifth goal of the season.

Defenseman Kevin Bieksa scored and Luongo turned aside 28 shots for the Canucks, who have netted just one goal in each contest during their three-game winless streak (0-2-1).

After a scoreless first period, the Canucks cashed in on their second power-play opportunity in the middle session to take the lead.

With Pavelski in the box serving an interference penalty, Sedin took a drop pass from Alex Burrows above the right faceoff circle and dished the puck to Bieksa. From the blue line, Bieksa drilled a one-timer past Niemi as Daniel Sedin was being knocked to the ice by Sharks defenseman Justin Braun just above the crease, screening the netminder.

Luongo was 65 seconds away from his first career shutout against San Jose, but the Sharks avoided being blanked for the first time this season thanks to a missed shot. Boyle partially fanned on a one-timer from the top of the left circle and the puck went directly to Hertl, who fired it into a vacant net from the right side of the crease for his 11th goal of the season.

GAME NOTEBOOK: In addition to San Jose, Luongo has failed to record a shutout against Detroit, Ottawa, Vancouver and the New York Islanders in his career. ... Sharks captain Joe Thornton notched his 805th career assist on Hertl's goal, climbing within seven assists of Pierre Turgeon for 29th place on the all-time list. San Jose has gone beyond regulation in three straight games and six of its last seven.
