Jeff Carter scored his second and third goals as the Columbus Blue Jackets completed back-to-back victories for the first time this season with a 4-1 triumph over the visiting Calgary Flames on Monday.
Antoine Vermette added his second tally and Vinny Prospal recorded a pair of assists for the Blue Jackets, who have now earned points in three straight games.
Career journeyman Curtis Sanford continues to display some magic in goal for Columbus. The 32-year-old earned his first win since 2008 in an overtime victory at Nashville on Saturday and followed it up with 27 saves on Monday.
Carter did not record his first goal until Saturday but seems to have found his stride. The veteran center unleashed a wrist shot from above the left face-off circle at the 3:01 mark of the first period, sending the puck over Henrik Karlsson’s left shoulder.
Vermette won a scrum in front of the net three minutes later, pulling the puck between his legs and snapping it into the near side. Carter scored on a 5-on-3 power play in the second, making it 3-0 when he cleaned up Prospal’s rebound on the left side of the crease.
Sanford was in net as No. 1 goalie Steve Mason was sidelined with an upper body injury, suffered during Monday’s morning skate.
