Trey Mancini homered twice, and Chris Davis hit a tiebreaking single in a three-run, seventh-inning rally as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the visiting Washington Nationals 9-2 on Wednesday night.
Washington took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh before the Orioles came back against Wander Suero (2-5). Anthony Santander tied the game with an RBI single before Davis followed with his single to center that gave Baltimore the lead for good at 3-2.
Tony Sipp then came on to pitch, and Rio Ruiz later added an insurance run on a sacrifice fly to center that gave the Orioles a 4-2 advantage.
The Orioles broke the game open with five more runs in the eighth. Mancini added a two-run homer in that frame against Javy Guerra, and he finished with three RBIs. Santander got a sacrifice fly while Stevie Wilkerson had an RBI double and then scored on a Ruiz single.
The game was delayed 1 hour, 32 minutes by rain at the start.
Erick Fedde was recalled from Double-A Harrisburg and made the start for Washington, going six innings and allowing one run on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Aaron Brooks made his second start as an Oriole and lasted 2 2/3 innings. Baltimore is trying to stretch him out and make him a member of the rotation. He gave up one run on two hits, walked two and hit a batter.
Gabriel Ynoa (1-6) earned the win in relief of Brooks, going 4 1/3 innings and allowing just one run on two hits. Mychal Givens came on when the game was close in the eighth and got his eighth save by pitching 1 1/3 scoreless innings.
Washington manufactured a run in the top of the third against Brooks to take a 1-0 lead. There was a single, a hit batter, a walk, three steals (including a double steal), and the Nationals scored on an Adam Eaton sacrifice fly.
The Orioles tied it when Mancini hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth.
The Nationals then took the lead back in the fifth against Ynoa. Trea Turner doubled to center with two outs, and Eaton followed with another double to center that gave Washington a 2-1 lead.
