Royals 4, Twins 1:
David Lough delivered a two-run double and Jeremy Guthrie pitched six solid innings as Kansas City defeated Minnesota to halt its 11-game home losing streak.

Salvador Perez and Billy Butler added run-scoring singles as the Royals ended the longest home skid in franchise history and won for just the seventh time in 29 games. The loss was only the second in nine contests for the Twins.

Guthrie (6-3) allowed one run and six hits to break a personal three-game losing streak. Minnesota put two runners on in the ninth before Greg Holland struck out Justin Morneau, Ryan Doumit and Chris Parmelee to notch his 10th save in 12 opportunities and wrap up Kansas City’s first home win since May 5.

Minnesota took the lead in the first inning, when Eduardo Escobar scored from first on Josh Willingham’s single. Perez’s RBI base hit tied it in the bottom of the inning and Lough doubled into the left-center field gap later in the frame to give the Royals a 3-1 edge.

P.J. Walters (2-1) gave up three runs – all unearned due to a throwing error by shortstop Pedro Florimon – and seven hits in six innings.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Butler went 3-for-3 for his fourth game of three or more hits this season. … Minnesota stranded 14 runners and twice left the bases loaded. … The Royals have scored 15 runs in George Brett’s six games as hitting coach.
