CALGARY, Alberta -- Michael Frolik's speed burned the St. Louis Blues on Monday.

The Calgary Flames' right winger scored two short-handed breakaway goals and added an empty-net marker to lead the Flames to a 7-4 win, ending the visitors' winning streak at six games.

Frolik's second goal of the night clinched the win with 3:11 remaining. Sean Monahan added two goals and an assist, and Joe Colborne and Mark Giordano scored a goal apiece.

"It's all about speed," Flames head coach Bob Hartley said. "You get breakaways when you have speed. Him and (Mikael Backlund) have great chemistry on the penalty kill. They pressure well while being reliable."

Paul Stastny scored two goals for St. Louis, while Scottie Upshall and Kevin Shattenkirk had the Blues' other goals.

It was the first win for Calgary (29-35-5) against St. Louis (41-21-9) in seven contests and prevented their visitors from taking over the top spot in the Western Conference's Central Division.

"I think we did a pretty good job on PK," Frolik said. "We kept our pressure and we kind of did a pretty good job there and score too, so that's always nice. Overall we were pretty good and we deserved those two points."

The Blues remain tied with Dallas Stars with 91 points. Dallas has a game in hand and 12 remaining in the regular season.

St. Louis was coming off big wins last week over the Western Conference's other top teams, Chicago, Anaheim, Dallas -- plus Minnesota -- and came to Alberta favored to continue winning against two of the league's weakest teams: Calgary and the Edmonton Oilers, who host the Blues on Wednesday.

"We're going to learn a hard lesson tonight," said Blues captain David Backes. "It's not a good feeling. We have a chance in 48 hours to get back on the ice and have a great effort to get back to our winning ways."

Shattenkirk scored on the power play at 3:28 of the third period, and Stastny went five-hole to make it 5-4 with 6:24 remaining. A too-many-men penalty gave St. Louis a late power play.

Joni Ortio made 31 stops in Calgary's goal.

Blues goalie Jake Allen suffered his first loss in six games and first in three career games against Calgary. He was pulled after Monahan's second goal of the second period and was replaced by Anders Nilsson, who was beaten to the glove side by Frolik on the winning goal.

Nilsson did not dress for the Blues' previous six games and entered the contest in mop-up duty, but that changed when his team gave him two goals in the third period

"They had quite a few breakaways but I need to step up and make the saves and help the team," said Nilsson, who faced 14 shots while Allen gave up four goals on 17.

"(Frolik's) a skilled player and had a good night. Unfortunately I couldn't come up with one or two more saves."

Colborne scored for Calgary at 10:24 when a dump-in ricocheted off the corner boards and out to him in front of a vacated net. Right after the faceoff, Upshall beat the Flames defense to a dump-in and put the puck over Ortio's shoulder at 10:33.

Stastny gave the Blues the lead at 12:14. Ortio kicked a shot aside, but it went off the referee Frederick L'Ecuyer's skate, and Stastny had an empty net.

Frolik scored on a short-handed breakaway at 16:42 of the first period to tie the game again.

Monahan got the first of Calgary's three second-period goals at 5:13 with a wrister over Allen's glove. Giordano's shot from the point made it through a crowd to make it 4-2 on the power play at 11:03.

Monahan scored again at 13:37 when a long pass from Dougie Hamilton sent him in on a breakaway from the blue line, and he beat Allen through the pads.

Flames C Mikael Backlund, who is in his seventh full season in the NHL, had an assists Monday and is two points away from matching his career high of 39 for one season entering the game.
