Rick DiPietro came on for an injured Evgeni Nabokov and made 24 saves as the New York Islanders used a four-goal second period to post a 4-3 win over the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.

P.A. Parenteau, Jay Pandolfo, captain Mark Streit and Matt Moulson scored and Matt Martin recorded his first two assists for the Islanders, who snapped a four-game slide.

Nabokov left the game at the 7:55 mark of the first period when he went down into the butterfly to make a save and suffered a groin injury. Enter DiPietro, the oft-injured franchise goalie who had not played since Nov. 5. The Massachusetts native got a chance to shake off the rust early, stopping eight shots in the first period.

The New York offense erupted in the second period as Parenteau needed just 41 seconds to score an unassisted goal. Pandolfo added his first goal at the 3:01 mark and Streit made it 3-0 with his second tally just over six minutes later.

The Canadiens would make it interesting when Max Pacioretty and Erik Cole beat DiPietro, but Moulson scored with 1:45 left in the second to keep the Islanders two goals up.

Captain Brian Gionta scored on the power play with less than five minutes left in the third, but DiPietro managed to keep the Canadiens at bay.
