Markquis Nowell hit a long 3-pointer and two key free throws in the final two minutes as visiting Kansas State ended the game on an 11-5 run to defeat Wichita State 65-59 Sunday night in Wichita, Kan.

The Wildcats turned up the defensive pressure, forcing the Shockers into 14 turnovers and keeping them at 19-for-54 (35.2 percent) from the field.

Kansas State (5-2) played without starting point guard and leading scorer Nijel Pack, who suffered a concussion Saturday in practice.

Nowell led the Wildcats with 16 points. He was joined in double figures by Kaosi Ezeagu with 14 points, Selton Miguel with 12 and Mike McGuirl with 10. Nowell, the shortest man on K-State's roster, also led the Wildcats with eight rebounds.

Wichita State (6-2) was led by Morris Udeze with a game-high 19 points. Tyson Etienne, who had 11 points, was just 4-of-20 from the field, including 1-of-11 from 3-point range.

Wichita State led by seven midway through the second half, but K-State went on a 9-0 run to take a 46-44 lead. The teams then traded buckets, with neither team leading by more than three points until 1:00 remained.

The Shockers jumped out quickly, leading 11-2 before K-State called its first timeout. The problem for the Wildcats was shooting, as they missed 11 of their first 13 shots. Wichita State led by as many as 12 points in the first half. But the Wildcats hit seven of their next 10 shots and used an 11-0 run to take the lead at 25-24 on a 3-pointer by Luke Kasubke.

The lead went back and forth and K-State went to the locker room with a 32-30 lead.

Ezeagu led the Wildcats in the first half with nine points. Miguel and Kasubke had six points each. The Shockers were led by Udeze with 14 points.

The Wildcats actually outshot the Shockers, though neither team shot well. K-State was 12-of-34 (35.3 percent) and Wichita State was 9-of-29 (31 percent).
