DJ Funderburk scored 19 points as North Carolina State closed the regular season by defeating visiting Wake Forest 84-64 to help its case for an NCAA Tournament bid Friday night in Raleigh, N.C.

Reserve guard Braxton Beverly scored all 16 of his points in the game's opening 12 1/2 minutes, and the Wolfpack held a double-digit lead for most of the rest of the game.

It was a much-needed win for NC State (19-12, 10-10 Atlantic Coast Conference), which had lost three of its previous four games. The Wolfpack could finish as high as a tie for fifth place in the league.

NC State had all sorts of offensive sources.

Markell Johnson, a senior guard, racked up 13 points in his last scheduled home game. C.J. Bryce had 11 points, all in the second half, and Devon Daniels provided 10 points.

Graduate transfer Danny Dixon added a season-high 10 points for the Wolfpack. Dixon had 14 total points this season entering the game.

NC State completed a season sweep of Wake Forest, with the first meeting in early December.

Brandon Childress had 19 points to pace Wake Forest. Olivier Sarr posted 14 points, and Jahcobi Neath added 12 points for the Demon Deacons (13-17, 6-14), who can finish no better than in a last-place tie in the ACC. Chaundee Brown had all 10 of his points in the second half.

NC State led 44-31 at halftime, with Beverly going 6-for-6 from the field by then. The Wolfpack shot 62.1 percent from the floor in the opening half.

Wake Forest looked out of sorts for stretches, but the Demon Deacons closed to within 62-52, resulting in an NC State timeout with 7:28 remaining. The Wolfpack scored the next seven points.

The Wolfpack built a 20-13 lead after Sarr had eight early points for the Demon Deacons. The margin grew to 18 points in the first half, thanks in large part to Beverly scoring 16 of the Wolfpack's 24 points in one stretch.

The Wolfpack won three of its last four home games.

NC State center Manny Bates didn't play because of unspecified injury.

Wake Forest hasn't won in Raleigh since 2017.
