Sophomore guard Joe Wieskamp scored a career-high 30 points and snared seven rebounds and Luka Garza registered his ninth straight 20-point effort with 22 points and eight boards to lead No. 17 Iowa to a 96-72 rout over Nebraska in Big Ten action on Saturday night.
Wieskamp made 10 of 15 from the field, including 2 of 4 on 3-pointers, and made all eight free-throw attempts. Garza also had an efficient performance, connecting on 9-of-13 shots.
Iowa shot 48.6 percent from the field, including 11 of 28 from 3-point range.
The Hawkeyes (17-7, 8-5) played with energy and never let up to avenge an earlier loss to Nebraska and wipe away any leftover frustration from Wednesday's 104-68 loss at Purdue.
The Cornhuskers (7-16, 2-10) dropped their eighth straight game and fell to 0-8 on the road this season. Reserve junior guard Jervay Green paced the Cornhuskers with 18 points and seven boards, while Cam Mack chipped in 13 points for Nebraska, which shot 42.4 percent from the field and 5 of 25 from 3-point range.
After a solid first half, the Cornhuskers fell apart in the second half after Iowa scored seven straight points to take a 48-32 lead. The Hawkeyes put the game away by scoring 18 points in a row, capped by two straight 3-pointers from Wieskamp to grab a commanding 66-38 advantage.
In the first half, the Hawkeyes came out strong looking to avenge their earlier loss to the Cornhuskers in Lincoln. Wieskamp scored on a layup to give the Hawkeyes a 25-9 lead, but the Cornhuskers battled back to cut the deficit to 27-23 on a layup by Green.
The Hawkeyes tacked onto their lead by reeling off four straight points to up the advantage to 31-23. CJ Frederick canned a 3-pointer with one second left to hand the Hawkeyes a 41-30 lead at halftime.
Iowa shot 5-for-16 on 3s while limiting the Cornhuskers to 1-for-10 from beyond the arc in the opening half. Garza made five of eight shots to tally 13 points and five boards in the first 20 minutes.
