Jordan Chatman scored 12 of his 20 points after halftime as Boston College downed Loyola-Chicago 78-66 on Wednesday night in the title game of the Fort Myers (Fla.) Tip-Off.
The Ramblers (4-2) got as close as five points in the second half, trailing 58-53 with 6:20 remaining after a pair of free throws by Cameron Krutwig. But Chatman immediately hit a 3-pointer and a jumper to kick off a 13-4 run, and the Eagles led by double digits the rest of the way.
Chatman led Boston College (4-1) in scoring and added six rebounds. Nik Popovic had 14 points and six rebounds, and Ky Bowman chipped in 12 points, five assists and four boards for the Eagles.
Clayton Custer, the leading scorer on the team that reached the Final Four in March, paced Loyola-Chicago with 17 points and four steals. Krutwig had 14, Lucas Williamson 13 and Marques Townes 10, along with a team-high seven rebounds.
The Eagles scored the first five points of the game, but things evened out for most of the first half. The Ramblers led 11-9 after six minutes and were tied at 16 after nine.
After Krutwig's layup made it a two-point deficit with 5:49 before half, Boston College used a quick 7-0 run to lead 33-24, and the sides traded buckets for a 36-26 difference at the midway buzzer.
Jairus Hamilton, who finished with 11 points, led the Eagles with nine in the first 20 minutes, while Chatman had eight. Custer (eight) paced the Ramblers, who hit just 1 of 11 3-point attempts before the break.
Boston College had beaten Wyoming 88-76 on Monday to reach the title game, while Loyola-Chicago had downed Richmond, 82-66.
