Reid Travis recorded his fifth double-double of the season, leading Stanford to a 79-55 victory over visiting Cal State-East Bay on Friday night at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif.
Travis had 24 points and 13 rebounds for Stanford (6-3), which was playing its first game since suffering an 89-74 loss to then-No. 4 Kansas on Dec. 3. Dorian Pickens had 11 points and five rebounds.
Pierre Carter came off the bench to post 14 points and four rebounds for Cal State East Bay (8-2), a Division II team from the California Collegiate Athletic Association. No other player scored in double figures for the Pioneers.
Cal State East Bay led briefly after Juwan Anderson made a 3-pointer on the opening possession, but Stanford responded with a 14-0 run. The Cardinal went up 18-6 on a layup by Marcus Sheffield. The Pioneers battled back to cut the deficit to six on a 3-pointer by Drew Bender, but the Cardinal answered with an 11-0 run to reestablish a double-digit lead.
Stanford led by as many as 23 points in the first period and carried a 46-26 advantage into the break. The Cardinal shot nearly 70 percent in the opening period while holding the Pioneers to 27-percent shooting. Travis was sensational in the first half, posting 21 points on 8-of-9 shooting while grabbing 11 rebounds.
Stanford continued to dominate in the second half. The Cardinal went up 54-28 on a basket by Marcus Allen, took a 62-34 lead on two free throws by Michael Humphrey and stretched the lead to 30 on a layup by Humphrey.
The Cardinal shot 55.3 percent from the field and amassed a 42-30 rebounding advantage. The Pioneers shot 29.7 percent and made 6 of 27 from 3-point range. Cal State East Bay's starters combined for just 20 points on 7-of-25 shooting.
