Junior guard Justin Robinson scored 16 points and freshman guard Micah Seaborn added 14 for Monmouth (1-0), which beat a Pac-12 team for the first time in school history.
Junior guard Bryce Alford scored 22 points to lead UCLA (0-1), which returns six of its top eight players from a team that reached the Sweet 16 last season. Senior forward Tony Parker had 19 points and 19 rebounds.
UCLA led 34-30 at the break and extended its advantage with an 11-0 run early in the second half. Monmouth later staged its own 11-0 run to take a 61-60 lead with 6:02 to play.

The Bruins reclaimed the lead on a 3-pointer by freshman guard Aaron Holiday, but the game went to overtime after the Hawks tied it on two free throws by Stewart with 54 seconds left.
The Bruins maintained a slight lead in the extra session until Stewart made two free throws with 18.9 seconds to play.
