No. 21 SMU 67, Temple 58: Nic Moore scored 13 of his 18 points in the second half as the host Mustangs rallied from a double-digit deficit to beat the Owls.
Cannen Cunningham scored 10 points in a reserve role for SMU (22-5, 13-2 American Athletic), which maintained its one-game cushion over second-place Tulsa in the league standings. Markus Kennedy added eight points and a team-high six rebounds off the bench while Ben Moore, Ryan Manuel and Sterling Brown chipped in eight points apiece for the Mustangs.
Will Cummings scored 14 points to go with seven assists and a career-high seven steals for Temple (19-8, 10-4), which had a seven-game winning streak snapped. Jaylen Bond added eight points and 11 rebounds while Jesse Morgan scored nine points for the Owls.
Nic Moore scored seven points during an 8-0 run, including a pair of 3-pointers – the latter of which gave SMU its first lead of the night at 46-43 with 8 1/2 minutes to play. Morgan's 3-pointer put the Owls back on top and Obi Enechionyia drove for a dunk to make it 52-49 with just under four minutes left, but Manuel drained a pair of 3-pointers to bookend a 10-0 burst and the Mustangs closed it out.
The Owls led by as many as nine in the first half before settling for a 33-25 advantage of the break. Temple went up by 10 on Bond's tip-in less than four minutes into the second half before the Mustangs forced turnovers on three straight possessions to key a 7-0 spurt that ignited the crowd.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Temple committed 15 turnovers, snapping a streak of six straight games with fewer than 10. … SMU had a 31-30 edge on the boards and improved to 21-2 when outrebounding the opposition. … After missing their first six free throws, the Mustangs finished 20-of-33 from the line.
