South Carolina made up most of a 23-point deficit after its lowest-scoring first half since joining the SEC in 1992, but Georgia held off the Gamecocks' furious rally for a 60-56 road victory Saturday.
After shooting 4 of 28 in the first half and trailing 28-9 at halftime, the Gamecocks, who are the worst free-throw shooting team in the SEC, got within 57-55 by hitting 14 consecutive foul shots in the second half.
But Georgia's Trey Thompkins blocked Bruce Ellington's 3-point attempt that would have tied the game in the final 10 seconds, and Gerald Robinson hit one of two free throws with 4.9 seconds left to seal it.
Thompkins had 16 points and nine rebounds to lead the Bulldogs (17-7, 6-4 SEC), and Travis Leslie added 13 points, six rebounds and four assists.
Malik Cooke scored 15 points, and Sam Muldrow added 13 points and six rebounds for the Gamecocks (13-9, 4-6 SEC), who have lost three straight and five of six.
