Ashton Gibbs scored 22 points and Gary McGhee had a double-double to lead No. 3 Pittsburgh to an 80-66 victory over city rival Duquesne on Wednesday.
In the first basketball game in the Consol Energy Center, Pitt (8-0) won its 10th straight over Duquesne (3-2).
Gibbs was 7 for 11 from the field while McGhee had his way inside with the smaller Dukes, recording 12 points and 13 rebounds.
Nasir Robinson had 14 points and 10 rebounds off the bench for the Panthers, who won’t play a true road game until visiting Providence on Jan. 4.
Bill Clark and Damian Saunders scored 20 points apiece for Duquesne, which had lost its previous nine meetings with Pittsburgh by an average of 15.9 points.
Saunders added 11 rebounds and T.J. McConnell scored 14 points for Duquesne, which got only 12 points from the rest of its roster.
The Panthers, who led 42-28 at the half, outrebounded the Dukes 53-29, which helped offset 19 turnovers.
